Solo Exhibition at The Outlet Gallery
I am excited to share my solo exhibition, Reclaimed Canvases: Transformative Eco-Expression, currently showing at The Outlet Gallery in Port Coquitlam. This body of work is rooted in the idea that art can emerge from the overlooked and the discarded, transforming everyday materials into something with new life and meaning.
Instead of traditional stretched canvas, many of the works in this exhibition are created on reclaimed surfaces: pieces of cardboard, the backs of playing cards, and even pages pulled from an old car repair manual. These unlikely supports carry their own stories—creases, stains, textures, and traces of past use—that become an integral part of each painting. By working with these materials, I aim to challenge the notion of what a “proper” canvas should be, while also reflecting on cycles of renewal and reinvention.
The series is both abstract and expressive, with layers of colour and gesture interacting with the histories embedded in the surfaces themselves. Each piece is a conversation between what was already there and what I bring to it: a dialogue of memory, chance, and transformation.
Through this approach, Reclaimed Canvases becomes more than an art show—it’s a meditation on sustainability, resilience, and creativity. It asks us to see potential where others might see waste, and to value the stories that persist beneath the surface.
The exhibition is open until September 11, 2025, and I invite you to experience these works in person. Whether on cardboard, a playing card, or a page of mechanical instructions, each painting speaks to the beauty of transformation—reminding us that nothing is ever truly finished, only reshaped into something new.
